The discipline of KPI setting, review, and reflection is vital for your team’s success.

Establishing Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) is a great start. Now, the hard work begins.

Are we reviewing our KPI’s regularly? Weekly and monthly should be our consistent rhythm.

Have we chosen KPI’s that embody what it means for our organization to be successful?

Do we have 5 to 15 that can be tracked accurately?

Are we holding ourselves and our teams accountable?

Are we asking if the KPI’s we established are truly meaningful?

A regular review and clarification of KPI’s is extremely important. I did this with a new client 1 month after we started having weekly Level 10/Leadership Meetings. They had not been tracking any KPI’s on a regular basis previously, so we created an initial list of them and started reviewing them weekly.

After the first month, we answered several questions for our KPI’s:

  1. Should we be tracking this KPI? Is it worth the effort to follow it?
  1. Should it be a weekly or monthly KPI?
  1. What should the goal be for this KPI? Is the goal we initially set reasonable?
  1. Should we add additional KPI’s that better reflect our team’s performance?

The discipline of KPI setting, review, and reflection is vital for your team’s success.
