Where and when do you get your best inspirations?

What do you do when you can’t see the way out of the challenges you are facing? Why not take a shower! I’ve had some of my best thoughts, the answers to some of my greatest challenges, while I’ve been in the shower. Based on discussions with many others, I’m not the only person who’s had this experience.

Why is this? Counter-intuitively, we gain new perspectives and see things more clearly when we remove ourselves from the challenge or obstacle we’re facing. So often we double down on our efforts to solve a problem when it often is best for us to take a step back, get a new perspective, and breathe in a breath of fresh air.

We need to carve time out of our busy days and weeks for renewal, regeneration, and fresh perspectives.

So where do you get your best ideas and inspirations?

  1. When you are in the shower?
  1. Meditation or prayer? I have received great perspective on life and my challenges when I’ve read and meditated on the Bible.
  1. Hanging around folks different than us and/or people who are great verbal processors? I really like “thinking out loud” with people and welcome verbal banter and interactions.
  1. Exercise? I often refer to my running times as my “therapy” sessions to my wife. I need these times to clean out my head, doing a bit of mental housecleaning.
  1. Thoughts that come to mind as you’re living life?! I have had great life perspectives and answers to prayer come to me as I’m living my normal life, sometimes through songs that come to mind.

So, where and when do you get your best inspirations?
